From the cause of the malfunction to the repair

So, shortly after I left Viedma, my motorcycle broke down. To find out the cause, I checked the symptoms online.

It seemed likely to be a worn clutch plate.

I had ridden it about 30,000 km since I bought it used.

I didn’t know if the previous owner had ever replaced it, but assuming they hadn’t, it’s now nearly 80,000 km, exceeding the recommended clutch plate replacement time.

I took it to Taller for a check.

He said, “It’s probably Embrague.”

And it was.

He advised me to buy a Japanese-made part rather than a compatible replacement.

I checked the part number just to be sure.

These are the relevant parts.

Besides that, I need oil, an oil filter, and a gasket.

I already had a filter, so I’ll use that.

The gasket was left over from a gasket set I bought when I replaced the cylinder head in Brazil.

So, all I need this time are the clutch plates and oil.

I checked if I could buy them in Bahia Blanca, and he recommended a shop, so I went there.

However, they only had compatible parts, so I searched on Mercado Libre.

I found an item with next-day delivery.

The price was AR$235.710, approximately USD 160.

It’s a shame I can’t buy it here in Brazil for about USD 100.

I double-checked the model number to make sure I hadn’t made a mistake and purchased it along with the oil.

And after the repairs were completed,

I also had them fix the stretched threads on the oil filter.

During my drive home, I clearly noticed a change in the speed output compared to before.

Perhaps the top speed has also changed.

When I got home, I checked the parts before replacement.

When I touched the areas that I would likely experience friction with, I found that some parts were still thick, while others were thin.

When I rotated them, there were cases where the friction coefficient was high and cases where it was clearly low, so this must have been the problem.

The labor cost for replacing the clutch plates was AR$120,000, approximately USD 81.

The oil filter repair cost was AR$50,000, approximately USD 33.58.

This was a painful expense for me.

I can finally depart for Monte Hermoso.
