Maintenance

From parts confirmation and ordering to repairs

Now that I know what parts I need to repair my motorcycle, I search for parts on Shopee.

Whether I go to buy them myself or have someone ship them internationally on my behalf, the stores often don’t have the parts, so we basically have to buy them on the internet in Brazil.

I would prefer to search on Mercado Libre, but I don’t have a Brazilian ID, so I can’t buy them there.

So Shopee is my only choice.

Brazilian online stores do not allow payment with credit cards from outside Brazil, but I created a Pix (Brazilian Central Bank remittance system) from my personal taxpayer registration number (CPF) while I was in Uruguaiana, so I can pay with Pix.

I search for the parts I need.

I was able to confirm that I could buy the parts I needed online.

Now, I need to store my motorcycle when I go to Brazil.

Before I went to explain to the customs, I consulted with a person from Andes Trading who I met in San Pedro de Atacama, and he told me that he knew someone who runs a delivery business that goes from Brazil to Peru through San Pedro de Atacama.

When I asked him to introduce me to that person, he readily agreed.

I immediately asked him for WhatsApp, and when I explained the situation to the person he introduced me to, he readily agreed.

Of course, there is a delivery fee, but it is much cheaper than going to Brazil and coming back by myself.

He told me that he wanted to deliver the things he wanted, He told me to keep it to a minimum because carrying everything might be a problem at customs.

The fender uppers and shrouds are large parts, so I thought I could buy them when I enter Brazil around July of next year, so I bought the bare minimum of contact base comp, headlight unit, mirror, and front dashboard bracket, and delivered them to the address in Brazil that he specified.

While I wait for the parts to arrive, I will look up a welding shop in San Pedro de Atacama.

I asked the hostel where I am staying for the contact information of a welding shop, “You should contact here,” so I sent a message.

He told me, “I’ll repair it when you bring it,” so I took off the frame and took it there.

This is quite warped.

I took it in and had it fixed, and this is what happened.

This is mostly fixed.

The hole positions were very sensitive when attaching the frame, so I won’t know what will happen until I try it on.

The repair fee is CLP50,000, about USD53.21.

While I’m waiting for the parts to arrive, I’ll repair the shroud that I can’t buy this time.

This is

This is what happened

These things are in shape now so there doesn’t seem to be any problem

After that, I waited about 3 weeks and was told that the package would arrive in San Pedro de Atacama from Brazil

I walked about 30 minutes to the pickup location and arrived

Thanks to Jonathan

Here are the parts that arrived

Contact base

Headlights

Huh?

This one is a little different on the back

I forced the light in

Mirror

Fog lights

Front dashboard bracket

I will install them

Maybe the frame is a little warped, but no matter what I do the new front dashboard bracket and screws won’t line up

So I decided to change it to the old one.

The motorcycle is back to life

But the starter won’t turn

I checked the fuses, which is basic.

As expected, the fuse was blown.

I have about five spares, so I replaced them and confirmed that everything was working properly.

The corner of the hexagonal screw on the contact base had come off and I couldn’t remove it, so I attached it to the outside as a temporary fix.

I need to use an impact driver to remove this, so I’ll have it removed at a repair shop.

Also, I tried to replace the front brake pads, which were worn out, but the screws were too tight and I couldn’t remove them.

I’ll have this removed as well

Anyway, now I can go to Bolivia, so I’ll head to Uyuni via the Hito Cajón border

Repair date: June 6, 2025
