From Chaitén to Quellón, Chile
My motorcycle trip this time was from Chaitén to Quellón, Chile.
It was about a five-hour boat ride.

The ferry departs at 8:00 AM, so I leave Chaitén at 6:30 AM.
In South America, foreign-issued cards may not be usable online, so I bought my ticket at a store in Coyhaique.
There is also a Naviera Austral store in Chaitén.

I go out to the seaside and go straight ahead

I arrived at the port in no time.

The attendant had a list, so I told him my name and asked him to check my registration number before boarding.

I had a ticket ready to issue, but it was unnecessary.
The motorcycle cost $68,838, or about USD 78.86.

A human costs $45,375, or about USD 52.
The total of USD 130 is quite expensive.

There is still some time before departure, so I will explore the ship.

Well, it’s time, so the ship is about to set sail.

It takes about five hours to get from Chaiten to Quellon.
I don’t have anything to do, so I sleep and wait.
By the way, the onboard Wi-Fi speeds are over 60Mbps, so we can watch videos and pass the time.

While I was sleeping, the ship quickly arrived at Chiloé Island.
It looks like the ship will arrive an hour earlier than scheduled.

And it docked

I get off the ferry

And I go straight ahead

Then I turned right and arrived at the Plaza de Armas.

And I felt something strange about the shift pedal.

Just as I suspected, the grooves on the shift pedal were worn down.
I couldn’t change gears like this, so I replaced it with the old pedal I had kept.
When I tried to secure it with screws, the pedal fell off, so I couldn’t secure it, but there was nothing I could do.
It was only about 100 meters left to my lodging, so I continued on with this.

This trip was mostly spent on the ferry.
Unfortunately, the shift pedal issue recurred, but I wasn’t able to get it in Quellon.
The sprocket I missed in Coyhaique has apparently arrived in Castro, so I’ll check with parts shops in Castro and some stores in Santiago to see if they have it in stock.

It’s about 90km from Quellon to Castro, so I think it’ll probably be fine.
If a problem occurs, I can just have my motorcycle towed by a car, so I’ll head to Castro with this.
