From Valparaiso to Santiago, Chile
My motorcycle trip this time was from Valparaiso, the capital of the Valparaiso region in central-western Chile, to the capital, Santiago.
The distance was about 120km.

When I was getting ready to leave, I tried to start my motorcycle engine, but the starter wouldn’t turn over.
I measured the battery voltage and it was pretty weak.

I keep a spare battery just in case, so I quickly replaced it.
I had some luggage on me, so I needed to unload it before I could get started.

I was ready just in time for check-out.
So, I’m leaving Valparaiso.

As I exit Argentina Avenue

It will soon become a city

I drive along the road for about 40 minutes and arrive at the first toll booth.
I don’t have a toll tag, so I go to the right, where there’s a toll booth with an attendant.
The toll for the motorcycle is $1,200, or about USD1.20.

And there’s a tunnel right there.
Halfway through this tunnel, we’ll enter the Capital Region.
Chile’s tunnels are well-lit, so we’re safe.

I drive along the road while looking at the scenery.

And I went through the tunnel again

And then I arrived at the next toll booth.
Here too, as long as I had my tag, I could just go straight.
The toll for motorcycles was the same as before: $1,200.

If I come this far, I’m almost to Santiago.

I entered Santiago.
The westernmost area is a bit rough.

As I approached the center, I began to see tall buildings.

I went through the Centro Historico

I arrived at the Plaza de la Constitución.
On our left is the Palacio de la Moneda, the presidential palace.

My motorcycle trip this time was jam-packed with traffic the entire way, so I didn’t really enjoy it.
The distance was short, and I had plenty of time before check-in, so I was able to drive slowly for the first time in a while.
After checking into my room, I charged the battery.

I will be staying in Santiago for a long time, so I will check the discharge a few days before I leave.
