Chile

From Copiapó to La Serena, Chile

My motorcycle trip this time was from Copiapó, the capital of the Atacama region in northern Chile, to La Serena, the capital of the Coquimbo region.

The distance was approximately 340 km.

I leave the center of Copiapó

Copiapó is a small town, so I was able to get into the city center quickly.

I encountered road construction about 15 minutes after leaving.

I drive slowly.

I quickly left the construction site.

Luckily, the road wasn’t rough.

And I continue to see the same scenery

I arrived at the first toll booth about an hour after setting off.

The bike cost $750, or about USD 0.78.

After that, I drove along the same unchanging road again.

This is the second toll booth.

The toll here is $850, or about USD 0.88.

Two hours and 45 minutes after leaving Copiapó, I finally left the Atacama region and entered the Coquimbo region.

And soon there was a third toll booth.

This one also cost $850, or about USD 0.88.

Now it’s time for the final sprint

I left Copiapo and arrived in La Serena in about 3 hours and 40 minutes.

I’m heading straight for the city center.

I arrived at Armas Square in about 10 minutes.

The square is surrounded by beautiful buildings

Like my last trip, this one involved a lot of driving on relatively unchanging roads, which was quite boring.

There were also many straight roads here, so a 300cc engine wasn’t enough for me.

A 500cc or larger would have made for a more comfortable trip.

Why is it that I rarely see people traveling by motorcycle in northern Chile?
