Regarding FI lamp abnormality

I thought that in Buenos Aires, the problem of the FI light being on could be solved, so I asked my friend to introduce me to a repair shop.

First, I tried to diagnose the symptoms myself before taking it there.

When I checked the HONDA manual, it only said, “The FI light being on means that there is an injection error, so take it to a repair shop as soon as possible.”

How unkind…

I try to think what the problem is

The current problem is that the FI lamp is always on and the idle speed is always high.

〇 Injection (blue)… Injection of gasoline

〇 Idle speed sensor (green)… Control of RPM

〇 Sensor map (purple)… Engine control

I think one or more of these are broken

So I think it would be a good idea to try replacing them one by one.

To the repair shop

Well, I took my motorcycle to the repair shop that he introduced me to.

Before I went, I explained the current situation to him, but he said, “I think something else is broken. I have a lot of work right now, so I need a week.”

The mechanic didn’t tell me the price, so I said, “I just want a quote first. After that, I’ll think about whether I want to arrange the parts I need myself or have them arrange them for me.”

Not only in South America, but outside of Japan, you may be asked to pay an exorbitant price later, so be sure to leave a message or recording beforehand to leave the price.

The mechanic told me that it would cost AR50,000, or about 51 USD, to check for errors.

I was also told that this fee would be free if I had it repaired here, so I gave him the OK and waited for him to contact me.

Diagnosis results

After a week had passed and I hadn’t heard anything back, I contacted him the next day.

Then he replied, “I’ve completed the diagnosis. I’ll send you the results,” and sent me a PDF.

Here is the PDF.

The mechanic said, “Looks like the injector is broken.”

I thought, “Yeah, I knew that, and I told you so, didn’t I? (But you said it wasn’t).”

Then the mechanic continued to tell me,

“This can’t be fixed here.”

I thought, “What?”

I asked him why, and he said, “The parts are expensive, so we can’t get them here.”

I said, “Yeah, I know that, but I can just buy a compatible one, right? I can just buy it myself?”

Then he said, “You can’t do that.”

I thought, “What?” again

Mechanic who can’t repair

He told me that if I were to do repairs here, the following conditions would be necessary:

〇You will only use genuine parts

〇I will not repair vehicles that have been modified in any way
※My motorcycle has fog lights and a smartphone holder with wireless charging

〇I will not repair old motorcycles

This is not an official HONDA repair shop

Under his conditions, anyone who can assemble a plastic model while looking at the instructions can repair it

If he cannot do this, he cannot be called a mechanic

Anyone who sees my motorcycle can see that it has been modified and that it is old by its age

But the fact that he has already taken on this repair once means that it is not a problem

His conditions are completely after the fact

In other words, he is not confident that he can fix my motorcycle (he does not say that he cannot do it himself)

And of course, he will charge me for the diagnosis

I give up

Not only Argentina, but South America in general is like a regional city in Japan.

In other words, human connections are very important, so everyone needs to behave selfishly, but also make an effort not to be left out.

Since this repair shop was introduced to me by my friend who lives here, I thought that if I caused a problem, it would affect my friend’s future position, so I decided to back out, even though I don’t agree with it.

I’m planning to go to Brazil via Uruguay after this, so I’ll make an inquiry to a repair shop in Brazil.
