Motorcycle Trip

From Santa Cruz to Villa Montes

In the end, I couldn’t get motorcycle parts in Santa Cruz either.

I’m planning to go to Argentina after returning to Paraguay, so I’ll buy them at Mercado Libre then.

I’m heading from Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia to Villa Montes.

It’s about 450km from red to yellow on the map.

Due to the long-term road closures, many cities in Bolivia, including Santa Cruz, were experiencing gasoline shortages, so it was important for me to find a refueling spot.

I was able to fill up my main tank in Santa Cruz, but I couldn’t fill up my reserve tank.

I only have 10L of gas left from filling up in Argentina.

So I’m off.

I had planned to take the main road, but Google Navi took me down a side road, which took me extra time to get out of the city of Santa Cruz.

This is a bad start for me

Is there a way to pin a route once made on Google Maps?

At a gas station in Cabezas, a town about 130km south of Santa Cruz, I asked at two gas stations if they had any in stock, but neither had any.

There was no gasoline in Abapo, about 20km further.

At this point, my motorcycle had only about 50km left to go, so I couldn’t go another 150km to Camiri, the next possible refueling spot.

I didn’t really want to use it, but I used some old gasoline from my spare tank.

In the end, I arrived in Camiri with about 60km left to go.

Here I was finally able to fill up my tank

I also tried to get the gas station attendant to fill up my reserve tank, but he told me, “Only Bolivians can fill up the tank.”

I asked him, “I’ll pay you the international price, can you fill up the tank for me?” and he agreed to only fill up my tank with 10L

8L in the tank, Bs. 70, about 9,6 USD

10L in the reserve, Bs. 100, about 9,6 USD

Now I can definitely get to Villa Montes

I left Santa Cruz and arrived there in about 5 hours and 30 minutes

I tried to fill up at YPFB near Plaza 24 de Julio in Villa Montes, but they told me they don’t offer international prices

I was able to fill up at Estacion de servicio Caiguami, about 500m north of the intersection of national highways 9 and 11, where I came from Santa Cruz

9L, Bs.78, about 11 USD

This will definitely get me to the gas station at the Paraguay border

Date of travel: November 6, 2024

This time’s harvest

In case of the worst, I decided to carry a pump to drain the gas from my car.
